Goncept and North Block Ent work closely with Mygoma Support To Organise Fundraisers and Charity Drives. Mygoma Support is a Canadian based organization whose aim is to help the neglected orphans of Sudan, Africa’s largest nation.
The name Mygoma comes from one of Sudan’s oldest orphanages. Opening its doors in 1961, Mygoma now takes in more than 30 babies each month.
It is estimated that about 1,500 babies are being abandoned every year in Khartoum. The orphanage is a lifeline for these children but its resources are limited. Funded primarily by minimal government grants and private donations, the orphanage is desperately under facilitated and lacks basic necessities such as balanced nutrition, health care, medical supplies, and clothing and incubators for the newborns rescued from the wild dog infested streets of Khartoum.
Then there are the needs that some may not view as necessary but are essential for the well being and safe development of the children. The first need is for a psychiatric program that assesses each child and caters to them individually. As many of these children are abandoned under harsh conditions, they are susceptible to severe mental distress which can lead to physical ailments, including becoming mute, assuming they do not die first from lack of food and improper nutrition.
They are also in need of an academic based curriculum to help mould their young minds and properly prepare them for a chance at to have successful future. As it stands right now, these children do not receive any type of educational schooling.
Mygoma Support assists in achieving these goals by working with volunteers from Sudan, as well as all over the globe, to fundraise and receive toys, learning supplies and clothes, as well as working with medical, social, psychiatric and academic professionals who volunteer their time and experience to help us design and put in place a system that not only gives these children a hope for the future, but essentially saves their lives. And with a mortality rate fluctuating from 12% to 22%, the immediate need for these services become even more critical, especially considering the amount of preventable diseases, like hypothermia, that for these children could mean death.
The question we have to ask our self is: does the difference in culture or geographical distance make these injustices any less in humane?
Think of the children in your own lives, no matter how close or far they are. What if they had to suffer how these children have suffered and continue to suffer?
Mygoma Support is welcoming any form of donation or efforts to help raise awareness and hopefully materialize this initiative and assist in aiding neglected children worldwide.
